A session on Life Challenges for the Youngsters, focusing on addiction and its consequences, was conducted for the students of Classes VIII, IX and X at Don Bosco Educomplex, Yerwada, Pune, to create awareness about substance abuse and encourage healthy and responsible choices.
The programme was graced by Fr Glen Fernandes, Principal, and Tr Manjusha Thorat, Supervisor. Tr Deepti Panpatil welcomed the dignitaries, resource person, teachers and students. Khanak Thakur of Class X introduced Dr Rashmi Tribhuvan, the resource person for the session.
Dr Tribhuvan’s session was informative and thought-provoking. She explained different forms of addiction, including behavioural, sexual and substance addiction, and highlighted their warning signs and harmful effects. She also spoke about substances such as opioids and cannabis.
Through the concept of the five dimensions of a human being – heart, body, mind, soul and society, students understood how addiction can affect physical health, emotional well-being, values, relationships and society. Real-life examples, visuals and statistics helped students understand the serious consequences of substance abuse.
The central message was clear: Learn to Say NO to Drugs and Stay Away from Addiction. Students were encouraged to choose their friends wisely, make responsible decisions and seek help when needed.
Mr Sandeep Satav, a former pupil and successful entrepreneur, shared his school memories and inspiring journey from humble beginnings. His words encouraged students to dream big while remaining grounded in their values.
Swara Mane of Class IX-B shared a meaningful thought on the responsibility of every individual to help build a society free from addiction.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Shramani Salve of Class X. Tr Deepti Panpatil specially thanked Mr Joshua Lobo for taking the initiative to organise this important awareness programme and for his concern for the well-being of young people.
The session left the students with a strong message that prevention begins with awareness, courage and responsible choices.
A student of Class VIII said, “The session helped me understand the harmful effects of addiction and the importance of saying NO.”
A student of Class IX shared, “The real-life examples were meaningful and taught us to make responsible choices.”
