“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller
St Dominic Savio High School, Andheri, brought its school community together for a heartwarming celebration of talent, compassion and togetherness at the Standard I Cultural Day, held on October 30, 2026. Guided by the school theme, “Do Whatever He Tells You – Faith in Action: Making a Difference,” and the sub-theme, “Walking Together – With the Young, the Aged and the Community,” the programme highlighted the importance of kindness, respect and mutual care.
The celebration began with a warm welcome extended to the dignitaries, including Rector and Manager Fr Franco Pereira, Principal Mrs Valerie Mascarenhas, Administrator Br Allan Netto and Head Teacher of the Primary Section Mrs Maria Xavier. Dream catchers, symbolising hope and positivity, were presented as tokens of welcome. A melodious welcome song set a cheerful tone, followed by a graceful prayer dance that created an atmosphere of peace and gratitude.
The highlight of the programme was the skit, “Together We Shine – Walking Hand in Hand.” Through relatable situations, the children brought alive the importance of caring for people across generations and within the wider community. The presentation portrayed friendship and sharing, respect and assistance towards the elderly, and the value of recognising those who contribute to our everyday lives. The concluding message, “One heart, one family, one future,” beautifully captured the essence of walking together without leaving anyone behind.
Adding colour and energy to the celebration, the dance performance brought the hall alive with rhythm and enthusiasm. The young performers displayed confidence, coordination and cheerful stage presence, earning warm appreciation from the audience.
Addressing the gathering, Rector and Manager Fr Franco Pereira reflected on the deeper meaning of walking together and holding hands. He explained how holding someone's hand symbolises trust, security and the willingness to place our lives in one another's care. Drawing a parallel with a child holding a parent's hand, he highlighted how we find strength and reassurance in one another. He further emphasised that when many hands come together, they become symbols of unity and strength, making even difficult tasks lighter and more enjoyable. Encouraging everyone to reach out to those who feel lonely or discouraged, he reminded them to seek support when in need and extend a helping hand to others. He also stressed the importance of spending time together and praying as a family.
The programme reflected the spirit of collaboration that makes every school event meaningful. The collective efforts of students, parents, teachers and support staff contributed to making the occasion memorable.
More than a cultural presentation, the celebration offered a meaningful reminder that change begins with everyday actions. Through music, dance and drama, the children conveyed a message that: when generations and communities walk together, even the smallest steps can lead to a kinder and more inclusive world.
