The grounds of St Dominic Savio High School, Andheri, came alive with vibrant colours, infectious enthusiasm and resounding cheers as the Pre-Primary Section celebrated its Annual Sports Day on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Centred on the theme “Walking Together, Growing Together,” the event was a delightful celebration of teamwork, determination, sportsmanship and togetherness.
Weeks of eager anticipation and enthusiastic preparation culminated in a sporting extravaganza that brought together the little champions of Nursery, Junior KG and Senior KG. Preliminary heats, conducted earlier in the week, gave the young participants an opportunity to experience healthy competition and build confidence. These included exciting events such as the Animal Race, Fruit Race, Colour Race, Letter Race, Object Race, Ring Race and the ever-popular Running Race.
The celebrations commenced with an impressive march past, as the little Savions stepped forward with pride and enthusiasm. A solemn prayer invoked God's blessings upon the gathering, setting a meaningful tone for the day.
Addressing the gathering, Rector and Manager, Fr Francisco Pereira, reminded parents that every child is a champion who blossoms through their unwavering love, encouragement and support. In her inspiring message, Principal, Ms Valerie Mascarenhas, reinforced the importance of nurturing each child's unique abilities and appreciating every effort, regardless of the outcome.
A highlight of the programme was the energetic Musical Drill, where the young performers captivated spectators with their synchronised movements, coordination and cheerful expressions, drawing thunderous applause from the audience.
The sporting excitement continued with creatively designed interclass races, including the Flip the Chair Race, Fruit Race and Bowl and Ball Race. The budding athletes displayed remarkable enthusiasm, agility and determination, while their classmates and parents cheered them on. Each event encouraged confidence, concentration, coordination and the spirit of healthy competition.
Adding a delightful family dimension were the engaging 'Mom, Dad and Lad' races, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from parents and children alike. Events such as the Off to School Race, Balloon Race and Ring and Cone Race sparked laughter, friendly rivalry and memorable moments of family bonding.
The proudest moments unfolded during the prize distribution ceremony, as winners mounted the victory podium to receive their well-deserved certificates amid enthusiastic applause.
More than a sporting event, the celebration reflected the school's commitment to holistic education, nurturing physical fitness, emotional growth, confidence and collaboration. As the celebrations concluded, the radiant smiles of the little Savions echoed the day's message: winning is wonderful, but participating, persevering and growing together are life's greatest victories.
