Virar East, October 2026: Resurrection Church, Virar East, celebrated its Parish Youth Day with enthusiasm, faith, fellowship and fun, coinciding with the 100th World Mission Sunday. In a first in the history of the parish, the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) leaders and heads of various associations took the initiative to organise the event, allowing the youth to relax, enjoy and experience the joy of being part of the parish community.
The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, animated by the leaders of the different groups through prayer and singing. The main celebrant, Fr Leon Ratinam, Director of DBYS, Matunga, and Province Coordinator for Youth Ministry, invited the young people to become true disciples of Christ by proclaiming the Good News through their words and deeds. Referring to St Mother Teresa, he highlighted how she continued her mission of serving the poor and marginalised despite the difficulties and challenges she encountered. Her life served as an inspiring example of faith, perseverance and missionary commitment for the youth.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, a vibrant cultural programme brought together the young people and parish leaders. The programme commenced with a prayer and blessing by Fr Thomas D’Costa, Parish Priest. Sunday School teachers and students presented a short skit and dance performance, which was warmly appreciated by the youth. Fun games and interactive activities added to the festive atmosphere, creating opportunities for friendship, laughter and community bonding.
One of the major highlights of the day was an informative session on cybercrime and cyber safety, conducted by Mr Swapnil, Assistant Police Inspector (API), Bolinj Police Station, Virar. The session addressed an important concern in the digital age and helped the young participants become more aware of cyber-related risks and the need for responsible and safe online behaviour.
At the conclusion of the programme, Fr Gregory D’Almeida, Youth Director, expressed his gratitude to the PPC leaders, heads of associations, Sunday School teachers and all those who worked behind the scenes to make the celebration a success. He appreciated their inspiring leadership, generous service and commitment to the growth and well-being of the parish youth.
Around 40 young people from different communities of the parish participated in the celebration. The day concluded with a lively cultural dance, leaving the participants with happy memories and a renewed sense of belonging to the parish family.
The Parish Youth Day was a meaningful blend of faith formation, missionary inspiration, awareness, entertainment and fellowship. Celebrated on the 100th World Mission Sunday, it reminded the young people that they are not merely the future of the Church but also its vibrant present—called to witness Christ, serve those in need and share the Good News with courage, compassion and joy.
