The students of Standard II at St Dominic Savio High School, Andheri, brought the school community together for a vibrant celebration of music, movement, colour and meaningful learning at their Cultural Day. Held under the school theme, “Do Whatever He Tells You – Faith in Action: Making a Difference,” and the sub-theme “Listening Hearts,” the programme beautifully combined entertainment with an important message for young and old alike.

The celebration began with a graceful prayer dance, followed by a melodious welcome song that created a joyful and uplifting atmosphere for the programme. The young performers then took the audience into a lively circus world, where music, dance, storytelling and colourful performances came together to create a memorable presentation.

At the heart of the programme was a thoughtfully woven story featuring Maya, Leo, Grandpa and the circus animals. Through their experiences, the children highlighted the importance of truly listening - not merely to words, but also to the feelings, needs and voices of those around us. The presentation gently reminded everyone that a listening heart is one that notices, understands and responds with care.

The circus-themed performances added energy and excitement to the celebration. With confidence and enthusiasm, the young learners presented a variety of dances and performances, filling the venue with laughter, colour and cheerful applause. Their presentation reflected the preparation, cooperation and guidance that went into bringing the programme together.

Fr Franco Pereira addressed the gathering, reflecting on how a circus brings people together, with performers leaving their families behind to become a family themselves. He highlighted the deeper stories hidden behind the clowns’ masks and appreciated how Standard II conveyed meaningful messages through their performances. Referring to the Ringmaster’s line, “I’ve been so busy planning the perfect show that I’ve forgotten to listen to my own crew,” he emphasised the importance of listening. He concluded by recalling Don Bosco’s childhood performances and encouraging everyone to nurture listening hearts within their families.

The celebration concluded with an energetic Grand Finale, as the young performers came together once again in a colourful display of friendship, joy and togetherness. The applause that followed reflected the shared pride of the entire school community.

The Cultural Day was also a celebration of partnership. Behind every performance were the efforts of students, teachers, parents and staff who worked together with patience, encouragement and dedication. The programme provided the children with an opportunity not only to perform, but also to develop confidence, teamwork, expression and an understanding of the value of listening and caring.

More than a cultural presentation, the event offered a simple yet powerful lesson: when we listen with our hearts, we understand others better and create a kinder world. The Standard II Cultural Day was therefore a joyful celebration of young talent, shared effort and the values that bring a school community together.
