On October 1, 2026, Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik commemorated Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti with a meaningful prayer service and a special programme that highlighted the timeless values of truth, simplicity, discipline, patriotism and service to society.
The celebration commenced with a prayer service, creating an atmosphere of reflection and gratitude. Through inspiring prayers and intentions, the students were reminded of the values and principles that shaped the lives of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. A thoughtfully presented skit brought these values to life, highlighting the importance of truth, non-violence, humility, cleanliness and responsible citizenship.
The programme continued with a melodious song, followed by an inspiring speech that reflected the contributions and ideals of the two great leaders. The students were encouraged to understand that true leadership is expressed not merely through words, but through one’s actions, character and service to others.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Fr Rixson Nigrel urged the students to follow the values demonstrated by Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri in their daily lives. He emphasised the importance of respecting food and recognising the hard work of farmers who provide it. He also reminded the students to value and respect the dedication and sacrifices of our soldiers, who work tirelessly to safeguard the nation. His message encouraged the students to develop gratitude, responsibility and a deeper sense of respect for those who serve society.
The celebration was followed by a cleanliness drive at the jogging track. The Scouts, Guides, Cubs and Bulbuls enthusiastically participated in the initiative, cleaning the surroundings and spreading the message that cleanliness is not merely a duty but a way of showing respect for our community and environment.
The programme thus transformed the ideals of Gandhi and Shastri into meaningful action. The celebration served as a reminder that the legacy of great leaders lives on when their values are practised in everyday life—through cleanliness, gratitude, discipline, service and respect for others.
