On October 29, 2026, Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik, celebrated the spirit of Diwali in a meaningful and compassionate way by organising a visit to Smt. Garda Balsadan, under Ashirwad Sevadham Trust, and Gharkul Parivar Sanstha. A group of students and staff members participated in this heartwarming initiative, undertaken by the Principal, Fr Rixson Nigrel, to bring light, happiness and hope into the lives of underprivileged children and specially abled young women.
Moving beyond traditional festivities, the initiative encouraged students to experience the true essence of Diwali through sharing, caring and selfless service. The students willingly contributed towards this noble cause, demonstrating generosity, empathy and concern for those who need love, encouragement and support. Their enthusiastic participation reflected the values of compassion, social responsibility and humanity that the institution strives to nurture.
Smt. Garda Balsadan, an orphanage and residential home for girls, provides shelter, care and support to girls in need. The visit offered students an opportunity to understand the importance of extending kindness and creating a sense of belonging among those facing challenges in life. It reminded them that the greatest celebration lies not merely in illuminating homes but also in brightening hearts and bringing smiles to faces.
The group also visited Gharkul Parivar Sanstha, a residential institution dedicated to the care, education and empowerment of specially abled young women aged eighteen and above. The institution promotes independence, self-confidence and dignity by equipping its residents with practical and vocational skills. They are trained in creative and productive activities, including candle-making, lantern-making, and preparing envelopes, files and other useful items. These activities enable them to develop their abilities, discover their potential and work towards financial self-reliance.
The institution’s commendable efforts to create an inclusive and supportive environment highlighted the importance of providing every individual with opportunities to learn, grow and lead a dignified life. The visit enabled students to appreciate the creativity, determination and abilities of the residents while developing a deeper understanding of inclusion and respect.
The visit proved to be a valuable learning experience beyond classroom education, inspiring students to become sensitive, responsible and compassionate citizens. Through this thoughtful endeavour, Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik, reaffirmed its commitment to holistic education, reminding everyone that Diwali becomes truly special when we illuminate not just our surroundings, but also the lives of others through kindness, generosity and love.
