Sacred Heart Parish, Yerwada, celebrated World Mission Sunday on October 18 with enthusiasm and generosity. The celebration brought together parishioners, religious sisters, church groups, children and elders for a day of fun, fellowship and charitable giving.
The day began with the 8:30 a.m. Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Glen Fernandes. In his message, he highlighted the true meaning of Christ’s mission, which is to dispel darkness and bring light into the lives of others. He encouraged the faithful to step out of their comfort zones and reach out to those in need. He reminded everyone that mission is not limited to great deeds but begins with small acts of love, kindness and service. Each person is called to make a difference in the lives of others and become a source of hope and light in the world.
Following the Eucharistic celebration, parishioners and various church groups joined hands to organise food and games stalls. The Sisters from Holy Angels, along with several parishioners, prepared a variety of delicious dishes that attracted many visitors. The food stalls provided an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the delicacies while contributing towards the World Mission cause.
The games stalls, organised by the Catechism teachers and Brothers, the Youth Group and the SHY Group, added excitement to the celebration. Children and adults participated enthusiastically, enjoying the games and creating an atmosphere of joy, laughter and friendly competition.
Clinton D’Souza served as the emcee and kept the audience engaged with his lively hosting. A special dance session added further excitement, with Russel playing foot-tapping music and encouraging parishioners to join in the fun.
The proceeds collected through the day's activities were handed over to Fr Michael, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, towards the World Mission cause. The programme concluded at around 2 p.m. leaving everyone with happy memories and a renewed sense of togetherness.
Sharing her thoughts, Mrs Jennifer D'Souza said “It was wonderful to see everyone working together for a good cause. The celebration brought our parish community closer.”
Mr Charles George added that, “The day reminded us that mission begins with us. Even a small contribution can bring hope and happiness into someone’s life.”
The celebration was a beautiful expression of faith in action, reminding everyone that serving others with love is at the heart of Christ’s mission.
