BIS #6160 Season of Creation at Resurrection Church Virar[E]

by Anita Mascarenhas with Father Anton D'Souza for BISMumbai

The Season of Creation, an ecumenical movement celebrated by the World Council of Churches along with the Catholic Church, began on 01 September on the World Day of Prayer for the care of Creation. Resurrection Church Virar [E] is promoting the Season of Creation through a healthy mix of offline and online events. Given the pandemic restrictions, volunteers have been unable to come together in large numbers to make an impact.

This is a time of restoration and hope and the parishioners of Resurrection Church continue to explore newer ways of co-existing harmoniously with nature. On behalf of the parish, George Fernandes and Gladwin Fernandes come to the Parish premises every week and undertake activities to make the Parish green. To amplify the importance of the Season of Creation, Boneeta Miranda from the parish youth group animated a video-presentation with a song on Brother Sun and Sister Moon which was very well received.

As part of the Parish annual plan itself, focus is on maintaining a Green Parish and creating an impact in the church premises and in the parishioners' homes. The pandemic prevented many activities and events in the parish, but promotion and restoration of vegetation in and around the Parish area through tree plantation, adoption of saplings and nurturing it while using natural resources sparingly, has happened over these days. The Parish advocates to strive and reverse the effects of global warming by giving the next generation a better environment to grow and prosper, while taking utmost care of God’s creation gifted to us.
