By Mrs Steffi Lemos and Mrs Dorothy Fernandes for BISMumbai
The 24th Annual Thanksgiving Day of Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Naigaon, was held on 22 February 2024.
The programme commenced with the welcoming of the Chief Guest Fr Savio Silveira - the Salesian Provincial of Bombay, and other dignitaries. The primary section students enthralled everyone with a lively welcome dance, setting the stage for an evening filled with captivating performances. This was followed by a prayer dance, which added a sense of reverence and spirituality to the gathering. In his address, the Rector, Fr Dominic Martis, extended a heartfelt welcome to the guests and parents. He said, “The day is a celebration of talents, strengths, cooperation and a sense of belonging.”
During the felicitation ceremony, the management, dignitaries, supervisors, and P.T.A. representatives were then recognised and thanked for their steadfast assistance and cooperative efforts with the school.
Fr Silveira's acknowledgement of the collective efforts of the management, teachers, and students highlighted the importance of teamwork in organising such a grand event. He addressed the parents saying, “Beyond computers and technology, however, we recognise that a successful and happy existence necessitates a range of abilities and competencies, including our students' mental health, emotional development, and personal growth. That is the main goal we have for our pupils here at the school and what will help them grow up to be amazing, successful, and happy people.”
The highlight of the evening unfolded with the grand launch of the school's Silver Jubilee year, marking a historic milestone in the institution's journey. The unveiling of the jubilee logo by the Chief Guest and the management was accompanied by a captivating presentation featuring a harmonious blend of dance and song by the students, which enthralled the audience. Subsequently, the annual school report showcased the remarkable progress and achievements made during the Academic Year 2023-24.
A creative interpretation of an abridged version of William Shakespeare's classic play, ‘The Merchant of Venice’, in the form of a musical, brought to life the timeless themes of mercy and justice, skilfully enacted by the talented performers on stage.
As the evening drew to a close, the Principal, Fr Anthony Fonseca, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the triumph of the event, reflecting on the spirit of unity and celebration that permeated the memorable occasion.
