The School Clubs Animators’ Meet was held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Don Bosco Youth Services, Mumbai. The event brought together educators from various Salesian institutions to share practices and reflect on the role of clubs in fostering holistic student development.
The day began with the registration of staff members, followed by breakfast and tea served at 9 a.m. in the refectory. The first session commenced at 9:30 a.m. with a meaningful prayer led by Fr Flovi D’Souza, who then extended a warm welcome to all the teachers gathered for the meet. He conducted an insightful session on the topic “Clubs in Salesian Schools.” Fr D’Souza spoke about the significance of forming various clubs in schools to nurture the holistic development of students.
An inspirational video titled “Be a Mr Jensen” was presented, showcasing how a teacher transformed a child’s disability into a strength. Fr. Flovi encouraged teachers to organize more student clubs that unlock potential and foster growth.
He highlighted the following key benefits of school clubs:
1. Skill Development – Leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, creativity and innovation, time management
2. Social & Emotional Development – Sense of belonging, friendship and mentorship, self-confidence, reduced stress
3. Academic Support – Reinforced learning, exploration of interests, career exploration
4. Community Engagement – Building a positive school culture, opportunities to serve society
In conclusion, Fr. Flovi emphasized that school clubs are essential for a well-rounded education. They provide students with valuable life skills, foster emotional growth, and support academic excellence.
The second session was conducted by Fr Leon Cruz and began with a fun icebreaker activity. Educators were divided into groups, where they introduced themselves and shared their areas of specialization and the responsibilities they shoulder.
Fr Cruz then posed the question: “What does the Salesian Youth Movement mean to you?” This led to a reflective discussion. He reminded educators that they are part of a much larger family connected through Don Bosco institutions and that their students, too, belong to this dynamic network. Fr Cruz also shared video clips showcasing youth services conducted in various regions, inspiring educators to build stronger student engagement in their own schools.
Educators were then divided into focus groups based on club categories such as the Eco Club, Media Club, Sports Club, and others. Each group discussed the practices followed in their respective schools. Later, a representative from each group shared key points and ideas discussed within their groups.
Post-lunch, the educators reassembled in their groups to reflect on two key questions:
1. What are the challenges you face with regard to clubs in your school?
2. What more can be done to enhance the functioning of clubs in our schools?
Each group presented their thoughts, suggestions, and possible solutions to enhance the club culture in Salesian institutions.
The final session was a lively and engaging activity titled “The Emoji Code Game” conducted by Fr Chris. This was followed by an open forum where teachers shared their experiences and takeaways from the day’s meet.
The enriching and interactive day concluded at 3:30 PM with tea and snacks. The educators left feeling inspired and better equipped to animate vibrant, student-focused clubs in their schools.
