BIS #7147 DOSTI’s Annual Day Programme

By Fr Jerome Edison for BISMumbai

On 4 February 2024, Don Bosco, Makarpura, hosted its first Annual Day programme for the children of DOSTI Oratory. DOSTI, an acronym for Don Bosco Organisation of Self-Transforming Individuals, has been a beacon of hope for the slum kids residing in the vicinity of Don Bosco, Makarpura.

The daily oratory, which witnesses a daily influx of 60-80 children, is facilitated by a team of dedicated Salesians, coaches, and teachers. Their collaborative efforts ensure the holistic development of each child. After eight months since its inception, the DOSTI Oratory celebrated its inaugural Annual Day, a testament to the progress and impact made in the lives of these children.

The programme commenced with a prayer service, the lighting of the lamp, a prayer dance, and a heartfelt speech by Fr Glen Fernandes, extending a warm welcome to the parents and children. The theme for the event was 'Dosti', symbolising friendship with everyone.

The cultural performances, including dances and presentations, were meticulously curated to reflect the essence of friendship and the spirit of Don Bosco. Following this, there was a prize distribution ceremony honouring students from every class who excelled in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, showcasing exceptional progress in personality development and character formation.

The climax of the event was the screening of the annual video report by Fr Issac Arackaparambil, the Rector. The report highlighted the myriad initiatives undertaken for the overall development of the DOSTI kids, demonstrating the transformative power of the Don Bosco approach.

In a bid to solidify the commitment of parents towards their children's continued participation, a commitment form was distributed and duly filled out by parents during the event. The day concluded with a fellowship meal, fostering a sense of community and shared joy among parents, teachers, and students.

Mr Rakeshbhai Parmar, a parent in attendance, expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am glad to see my child excelling in Don Bosco", a sentiment echoing the success and positive impact achieved through the dedicated efforts of Don Bosco through the DOSTI Oratory.

DOSTI is a comprehensive initiative that not only focuses on academics but also delves into sports, personality development, and character formation. It aligns with the vision set forth by the Cardinal Rector Major Ángel Fernández Artime, advocating for the availability of institutional spaces for the less fortunate.
