by Juliana Rodrigo for BIS Mumbai

On July 31st, 2024, a training program for teachera was conducted at Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, aimed at enhancing the educational advancement of the school.

The student council members took a session on decoding the Vision, Mission, and Values of Don Bosco School. The session began with a recital of a shlok in Sanskrit by Tr Neeru Nigam, creating a serene and uplifting atmosphere.

Mrs Jyotsna Dsouza, the Chairperson of the meeting, introduced the student council members and the topic of the session for the day. Each teacher was strategically assigned to a group based on their respective sections, allowing for widespread representation and participation. The students kickstarted the event with an energizing team-building activity, challenging the groups of teachers to construct the tallest tower using paper cups strategically placed in the Assembly Hall. The competitive and spirited participation of the teachers set the perfect tone for the subsequent decoding session.

Groups engaged in deciphering the school’s vision and mission statements, breaking them down into five distinct parameters. An additional creative activity had teachers metaphorically represent the decoding process as toppings on a pizza, linking them to the realm of education.

Following the session, a CPR training program was conducted by Dr Natasha Jadhav, a Senior Doctor from Apollo Hospital, along with Staff Nurse Ms Monali Patankar, and Mrs Jini Biju, a nurse at Don Bosco School. The collaboration culminated in a thoughtful acknowledgment of the resource persons by Rector Fr Barnabe D'Souza and Principal Mrs Kalyani Chaudhary. Dr Natasha Jadhav elucidated the significance of Basic Life Support and CPR, providing real-life scenarios.

The interactive demonstration offered a comprehensive step-by-step guide for administering CPR, ranging from pulse and breathing assessment to precise chest compressions. An inspiring number of teachers, sports coaches, administrative, and support staff demonstrated their commitment by actively participating in hands-on training, underscoring the school community's dedication to ensuring preparedness for critical situations.

The training program provided an enriching experience for the teachers, reflecting the school's commitment to professional development and preparedness for critical situations, and demonstrating dedication to continuous improvement and growth.
