By Mr Prashant Gaikwad for BISMumbai
The 75 years of India’s independence was celebrated with vibrant joy and patriotic fervour on 15 August 2022 at Don Bosco Educomplex, Yerwada, Pune. The management, staff, students, parishioners and alumni of Don Bosco High School were present for the occasion.
The ceremonial celebrations began with the flag hoisting at the assembly ground by the chief guest Major (Retd.) Sidram Solankar (NSG Commando). The programme continued in the school hall as the guest of honour and all the dignitaries were escorted by the Scout and Guide Escort Troop. The Principal, Fr Ajit Munis, introduced the chief guest, while Fr Michael Bansode, the Rector, welcomed the chief guest with a bouquet and a memento of Don Bosco. Ms Nutan Khandagale, student of the school, mesmerised the audience with a soul-stirring speech.
As the country celebrates the 75 years of the Amrut Mahotsav of Independence, Don Bosco High School and Junior College had organised various competitions. The winners of these competitions were felicitated by the chief guest.
Mr Solankar, in his speech, shared his experiences as a soldier and as an NSG Commando. He appealed to the students to join the armed forces, and promised all the possible help, support and guidance.
The celebrations at Don Bosco, Yerwada, instilled in those present overwhelming gratitude and pride to be a citizen of India.
