by Rachel Pinto for BIS Mumbai
On March 6, 2025, Don Bosco Chinchwad proudly launched the 'Women in Refinish' course, marking a significant milestone in empowering women in the community. The institute's state-of-the-art facilities, including modern painting booths and classrooms, provided the perfect environment for the inaugural batch of 25 enthusiastic girls.
This pioneering initiative is the result of a collaborative effort between BASF, Mahendra & Mahendra, Seva Sahayog, and Don Bosco Chinchwad. Together, they aim to nurture young minds, foster a brighter future, and promote gender equality.
This program is a testament to the power of partnership and commitment to empowering women. As the first batch of students embarks on this journey, we celebrate the potential for growth, learning, and transformation.
Participation of women in the workforce is crucial for India's economic growth and development. Yet, women's representation in male-dominated industries such as automotive refinish is still limited. By providing women with the necessary skills and training, we can help bridge this gap and create a more inclusive and diverse workforce. 'Women in Refinish', a three-month training program tailored to give women hands-on training in refinish painting techniques, is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
The launch of the Women in Refinish course was honored by the presence of several eminent personalities from Mahendra & Mahendra, BASF and Seva Sahyog Foundation.
Their participation and support underscored the significance of this initiative and the collective commitment to empowering women in the community.
The newly built Refinish lab was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by the pioneering first batch of girls enrolled in the Refinish course. This symbolic gesture marked the beginning of a new era in empowering women with skills and knowledge.
The distinguished guests gracing the occasion took part in a sapling plantation ceremony, signifying the growth and nurturing of young minds. This gesture embodied the hope and commitment to fostering a brighter future for the girls.
As the Refinish lab opens its doors, it symbolizes a beacon of hope for the girls and the community. The initiative aims to train and empower several girls, equipping them with the skills and confidence to shape their futures and make a positive impact in society.
Fr Anton D'Souza, Director of Don Bosco Chinchwad, extended his heartfelt gratitude to the partners, including BASF India Limited, Mahendra & Mahendra, and Seva Sahayog, for their unwavering commitment and support in making the Women in Refinish course a reality.
Fr D'Souza's vote of thanks acknowledged the collaborative effort and dedication of all stakeholders involved, emphasizing that this initiative would not have been possible without their collective enthusiasm and support.
