Matunga, Mumbai – Every evening, the campus of Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga, radiates with youthful energy, echoing the joy and vitality of over a hundred children from neighboring communities such as King’s Circle, Bharni Naka, Antop Hill, GTB Nagar, and Dharavi. From 3:00 PM to 6:30 PM, the Oratory transforms the Salesian premises into a vibrant space of opportunity, where learning meets laughter and every child is welcomed, encouraged, and empowered.
The Don Bosco Matunga Oratory is a living expression of Don Bosco’s vision—a home that welcomes, a school that educates, a playground that unites, and a church that uplifts. Rooted in the Salesian spirit, the Oratory offers a rich and diverse bouquet of activities focused on the holistic development of each child who walks through its gates.
The Oratory’s academic and creative offerings are designed to build essential life skills. Spoken English classes help young learners gain confidence and improve their communication, while music sessions introduce them to the world of piano melodies and guitar rhythms. Through dance classes, computer literacy programs, and art & craft workshops, children are encouraged to express themselves freely, unlocking their hidden potential in an environment of care and encouragement.
Physical fitness and character formation go hand in hand. The Oratory runs regular coaching sessions in basketball, football, and cricket, promoting not only physical well-being but also teamwork, perseverance, and discipline. The joy of play becomes a powerful tool for growth, friendship, and emotional resilience.
Throughout the year, the Oratory calendar is filled with vibrant events that highlight talent and cultivate community spirit. From talent shows and cooking competitions to art expos and festival celebrations, children are given multiple platforms to shine and grow in self-belief. The eagerly awaited Sports Day brings together the entire oratory family in an atmosphere of excitement, unity, and healthy competition.
The highlight of the year is the Annual Oratory Day, a grand celebration of joy, diversity, and togetherness. This year’s theme, “Rainbows of Hope,” was brought to life through a kaleidoscope of performances—dances, skits, songs, and dramatic presentations—all echoing the dreams, struggles, and aspirations of the oratorians. The event served as a poignant reminder that despite the challenges they face, every child carries within them a spark of hope and a rainbow of possibilities.
The Don Bosco Matunga Oratory is not merely an evening program—it is a community of care, a second home, and for many, a lifeline. Guided by the Salesians and animated by committed volunteers, the Oratory continues to be a safe and nurturing haven where children experience the joy of being seen, heard, and loved.
In the heart of Mumbai, amidst the daily struggles of urban life, the Oratory stands as a beacon of the Salesian mission—empowering the young, accompanying them with love, and leading them to fullness of life.
