BIS #6985 Career Guidance at Don Bosco, Borivli

By Fr Mario Vaz for BISMumbai

On 22 July 2023, Don Bosco, Borivli, organised a career guidance workshop for the students of Grades 10 and 12.

It is noticed that most school students of Grades 10 and 12 feel as though s/he is at the crossroads of his or her life, often wondering which career path to choose so that s/he is rewarded with a promising career. This is where the alumni of Don Bosco, Borivli, stepped in to assist the students and parents of Don Bosco High School and Junior College understand how they could go about choosing a career.

About three hundred parents and students of the institution were welcomed by Fr Flovi D’Souza, the principal, as he dwelt on the importance of career guidance in understanding what they wish to pursue in order to fulfil their dreams. He appreciated and thanked the alumni of the school for organising this important session.

Over the next two hours the audience listened attentively to Ms Qurrat Kapasi, a Counselor from Young Buzz Pvt. Ltd., as she delved into the various careers in both government and private sectors that could be considered by the students. The qualifications required for each career, the enrollment procedures, the different options available to the student and the pros and cons were discussed threadbare. The information shared was complete and quite an eye opener for many students and their parents.

After the career talk there was a Q&A session where clarifications were given, queries were answered and myths busted. The last and most important question “Which is the Right Career for Me?” was then tackled. Parents and students were made aware of how to go about making a choice. One’s self-awareness, the availability of aptitude tests, how to take a decision based on the results of the test, as well as individual counselling were then shared.

Information about careers in English as well as in the vernacular along with links to various websites were on display boards in the hall. This much appreciated and informative program came to an end with a vote of thanks.
