A Teacher Orientation Program was held in the Parish Hall of Don Bosco Nashik with the objective of equipping educators with skills and knowledge to effectively engage with today's student, including members of Generation X, Generation Y, and the emerging Generation Alpha. While adapting to modern educational demands, the session reinforced the importance of staying rooted in the values of the Don Bosco Educational System.
The orientation was facilitated by Fr Ian Pinto from Divyadaan Nashik, and focused on four central themes: Don Bosco's Educational Philosophy, Understanding Generational Learners, Well-being of Teachers and Students, and Awareness of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Fr Ian elaborated on the Preventive System of Don Bosco, explaining its foundation in reason, religion, and loving kindness. He emphasized how this approach aims to form responsible, compassionate, and value-oriented individuals. The Don Bosco system, he noted, encourages a nurturing environment where academic, emotional, and spiritual development go hand in hand.
This was followed by an informative session on generational learning styles. Using visual presentations, Fr Ian outlined key differences between Generation X, Generation Y, Generation Z and Generation Alpha. He noted that while Generation Z students bring unique learning preferences shaped by digital immersion, Generation Alpha - today's youngest learners - demonstrate intuitive digital fluency. These insights aimed to help teachers better relate to and teach these learners.
The session also addressed the emotional well-being of both students and teachers. Fr Ian stressed that promoting emotional health is essential in building safe and effective learning environments. When speaking on the POCSO Act, Fr Ian highlighted its importance in ensuring a safe and child-friendly school environment. The teachers were reminded of their responsibility to be informed about legal provisions safeguarding children from abuse and exploitation. The orientation offered practical strategies and renewed insight into how educators can address the evolving needs of learners. It reinforced Don Bosco's principles, the relevance of generational understanding, the importance of emotional health, and legal awareness regarding child safety.
The Teachers Orientation Program left the teachers with a sense of renewed enthusiasm and preparedness for the upcoming academic year.
