BIS #7266 Don Bosco Nerul Alumni Meet 2024
Report by Tr Lisa Dominic for BIS Mumbai
The Annual Alumni Meet of Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul, held on August 15, 2024, was a memorable event that brought together approximately 160 past pupils. The theme of the event, Homecoming, was an invitation to relive cherished memories and rekindle friendships, reminding the alumni of their roots and the lasting bonds formed during their time at the school.
The event was filled with engaging activities that reflected the vibrant Don Bosco spirit. A live band set the tone for the day, energizing the crowd and creating a nostalgic atmosphere. The alumni participated in a treasure hunt, which sparked excitement and camaraderie, and later enjoyed a DJ session that had everyone dancing throughout the afternoon. The joyous laughter, warm conversations, and the unmistakable sense of belonging echoed across the school grounds, as old friends reunited and new connections were made.
The highlight of the day, however, was the much-anticipated launch of the Dream Project, commemorating the 200th anniversary of Don Bosco’s dream. This special initiative was spearheaded by the alumni, inspired by the vision of the Rector, Fr Barnabe D’Souza. The Dream Project aims to support past pupils who, despite their potential, face financial challenges that hinder their educational or vocational progress. The alumni pledged to offer assistance by covering fees, providing essential resources, and offering mentorship to help these students overcome obstacles.
In a further gesture of social responsibility, the alumni also committed to allocating 20% of the funds raised through the Dream Project to the Don Bosco Social Development Centre. This contribution will support marginalized communities, ensuring that the legacy of Don Bosco’s compassion continues to uplift the less fortunate.
Fr Barnabe D’Souza, in his address, warmly welcomed the alumni and emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. He encouraged them to continue making a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Similarly, Fr Adolph Furtado, the Past Pupil Delegate, urged the alumni to contribute generously to the Dream Project and to take pride in their role as part of the Don Bosco family.
The 2024 Alumni Meet not only provided an opportunity for past pupils to reconnect but also served as a platform to inspire them to contribute meaningfully to the future of their peers. The event truly embodied the spirit of Don Bosco, ensuring that the bonds formed at school continue to grow stronger with each passing year.
