The journey toward the Sacrament of Confirmation began meaningfully for the confirmands of Don Bosco Parish with a special commitment service held on Sunday morning. The event brought together confirmands, their parents, godparents, SCC animators, prayer guardians, and priests—emphasising that preparation for Confirmation is not just a programme, but a shared process involving the faith community.
Fr Solomon Rapol, Confirmation Coordinator, welcomed the gathering and invited everyone to share in the joy of the young candidates as they began their spiritual journey. The service opened with a reading from the Book of Tobit, recounting how Tobias sought a companion for his journey and was joined by the angel Raphael. A psalm was sung, followed by a reading from the Gospel of St Luke, which spoke of Jesus' healing presence. In a brief reflection, Fr Solomon explained the roles of the archangels and reminded everyone that we, too, can seek their support and guidance in times of need.
The commitment service that followed helped the confirmands reconnect with the grace of their Baptism. In a symbolic gesture, parents poured water over their child’s hands, calling out their name and invoking the Holy Trinity.
Fr Solomon then addressed the candidates directly, asking whether they were willing to commit to the path of discipleship and deepen their relationship with Christ. This was followed by a meaningful moment where godparents signed the forehead of the confirmands with the cross, and parents blessed their child's senses—eyes, ears, mouth, hands, and feet—signifying their desire for their children to be guided by God’s grace in all that they see, hear, say, do, and where they go.
The service concluded with a note of thanks and a group photograph, marking the beginning of this important spiritual journey. As the confirmands look ahead to the Sacrament of Confirmation, they move forward supported by a caring community, guided by prayer, and strengthened by hope.
