BIS #7406 Healthy Planet, Healthy People - Annual Sports Meet at Don Bosco

Aiming to promote physical fitness and environmental consciousness among the students, Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik organized an Annual Sports Meet centering around the theme 'Healthy Planet, Healthy People'. The event held on November 18, 2024 highlighted the connection between personal health and the health of the planet.
The opening ceremony began with the felicitation and welcome of the Chief Guest, Fr Savio Silveira, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Mumbai. Speaking to the students gathered for the event, Fr Silveira emphasized the importance of fitness, teamwork, and resilience, urging students to embrace sportsmanship and environmental responsibility.
To invoke God's blessing for the day's events, the students staged a prayer dance. The ceremonial torch to begin the Annual Sports Meet was passed from athlete to athlete and handed to Fr Silveira who then declared the event officially open.
A Theme March followed, celebrating the day's ideals of physical fitness and environmental stewardship. The opening ceremony concluded with Fr Savio hoisting the school flag, followed by the athletes taking the Sportsman's Oath pledging to uphold the values of fairness, honesty and respect.
A key highlight of the Annual Sports Meet was the inauguration of the Sports Boards, symbolizing the school's commitment to promoting athletic excellence. The day continued with various sports competitions, filling the playground with excitement and fostering a spirit of unity.
Additionally, Fr Silveira conducted an inspiring session with the teachers, stressing the importance of interactive teaching methods and the introduction of inquiry-based learning. he encouraged teachers to engage students actively, fostering curiosity and critical thinking. By nurturing independence and confidence, this approach aims to enhance the learning experience. The interaction concluded with insightful discussions, reflecting the importance of innovative teaching in addressing students' challenges.
The event was a great success, blending sportsmanship, environmental awareness, and community spirit in line with the values cherished by Don Bosco School.
