by Sabrina Mukadam for BIS Mumbai

Don Bosco International School, Matunga celebrated Literacy Week that began on September 2, 2024 and concluded on September 6, 2024. Students form the Early Years (EY) to Grade 9 participated in the event.

The Grade 9 students inaugurated the event with an assembly presenting great literary icons right from the Middle Ages to our present times. A choral recitation, named 'Echoes of Expression', had a blend of spellbinding performances with each class, from the Early Years learners to Grade 5, having a distinctive theme.

Students from Grades 1 and 3 brought stories of adventure to life with their story-telling skills. Grade 3 showcased the beauty fo narrative poetry while the students of Grade 4 brought out the humour of tall tales with their animated rendition. A Spelling Bee competition was also organized for the students of Grade 6.

The highlight of the event was the powerful performances of historical fiction brought out by the students of grade 5 and the various debates held for the higher grades relating to current educational trends.

The Literacy Week is the start of the upcoming event, Orator's Odyssey that would feature students integrating powerful themes of democracy and peace into public speeches reflecting the values that are held dear as a global community.

The Literacy Week was more than just an event focussed on reading and reciting; it was a celebration that fostered a love for language, empowering voices and creating lasting memories.
