The MumbaiSalesians' managed Don Bosco School Makarpura-Vadodara, in Gujarat, has been appreciated as the school that plays the role of environmental guardian. Featured on SparkTodayNews as a school with an environmental consciousness through a well-defined curriculum pattern, that involves the management, teaching staff, ancillary staff and the students, Don Bosco Makarpura's efforts have been lauded in caring and nurturing love for nature and the environment.

The school was also featured in a Divya Bhaskar news-report, for its unique environmental conservation efforts, by the teachers and students, also involving the locality. The special priority accorded to hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness, with tri-coloured [green, red and brown] waste-segregation bins in each classroom and in every corner around the campus, is a very proactive method of educating to environmental consciousness. According to former Principal-Father Anthony Pinto, the school has implemented various schemes for waste-disposal.These have resulted in 95% waste reduction in the school. Besides, tree twigs and leaves are converted into organic manure. Plantation of trees, and caring for the 20-year Neem trees around the school campus, has been a major activity aimed at nature-conservation.

As the entire world gears up for World Environment Day with various initiatives and schemes being launched anew, Don Bosco School Vadodara showcases the simple, basic and inclusive means to preserve and care for nature in one's own backyard!
