BIS #7281 Five Aspirant Cooperators Take Oath at Yerwada
by Alphonsa Ohol for BIS Mumbai
On August 25, the Salesian community of Sacred Heart Parish, Yerwada, gathered to celebrate the oath-taking ceremony of five new cooperators as part of their golden jubilee celebrations. The day began with a Eucharistic celebration featuring a dance performance by youth. Fr Diego Nunes, the provincial delegate, presided over the Mass. Fr Michael Fernandes, the parish priest and local delegate of the Salesian Cooperators of Yerwada Unit, and two Capuchin priests, Frs Rakesh and Benjamin, concelebrated. Salesian Cooperators participated actively in the Mass.
Five new aspirants—Ashish, Aaron, Reynold, Preeti and Jincy - made their promises to become Salesian Cooperators. After the homily, they stood before the altar and pledged to dedicate themselves to the mission of St. John Bosco. They signed their commitment on the altar, symbolizing their readiness to embrace this mission.
Following their promises, the new Cooperators participated in a candle ceremony. Each received a lit candle, representing the light of Christ they are called to carry into the world. They were also presented with the Salesian Cooperators' Handbook, a resource containing rules and guidelines for their role.
Current Salesian Cooperators renewed their promises during the ceremony. Fr Michael blessed the new Cooperators, placing a rosary around their necks. Fr Diego congratulated them and offered a prayer for their journey.
After Communion, Ashish Pillay, speaking on behalf of the newly promised Salesian Cooperators, expressed gratitude to those who supported the event. He thanked Fr Diego, Fr Michael, Sudha Pillai (the provincial coordinator), and council members Marie, Dian, and Franklin for their efforts and guidance. He also acknowledged Cyril Ashirwadam, the Salesian Coordinator at the Yerwada Unit, for his guidance during their formation.
The celebration marked the beginning of a new journey for the five aspirants and reinforced the commitment of the Salesian community. As part of the golden jubilee, this event highlighted the ongoing mission to serve God and young people, particularly those in need.
