BIS #6625 Jyoti Premier League

by Fr Richard Burkhao for BISMumbai

The youth of Jyoti Mata Church organised the Jyoti Premier League – a two-day zonal cricket tournament – for the parishioners of Jyoti Mata Church on 24 and 25 May. The event began on the evening of 24 May. Fr Richard Burkhao, the youth director, led the gathering in prayer, and then declared the tournament open.

What made the tournament interesting was the fact that each team had to include two women, two school-kids, and one person aged 40 or above. Eight teams participated in the tournament, and it was organised in the league format. The parishioners came in large numbers to cheer and encourage the teams. The lively and humorous commentary by Mr Benar Burboz added a flavour excitement to the entire tournament.

On 24 May, all the league matches were played and on the following day the Playoffs were organised. Nityasayak shejol (zone) were the winners of the tournament, and Nazareth shejol were the runners up. Velankanni shejol bagged the third place. All these winners were given their respective cash prizes and trophies. Swain Pereira was adjudged as Best Batsman, while Melroy Murzello was adjudged as Man of Series.

The tournament was a great success due to the meticulous planning and execution by the youth. The parishioners appreciated the smooth running of the tournament, the coordination of the event, and the entertainment they enjoyed.
