BIS #7264 Career Guidance Programme at St. Joseph’s, Wadala

Career decision making process is a life-changing event in a person’s life. The career confusions and concerns among students in high school is one of the major worries of adolescents, that needs to be addressed at the earliest. Taking an informed career decision will save an individual from going through the confusions and dilemma associated with inappropriate career choice in future.
Keeping this thought in mind St. Joseph’s High School Wadala organised a “Career Guidance Programme” on 17th August 2024 under the guidance of the Principal Fr Solmon Rapol for the students and parents of Class X along with St. Joseph’s High School, students from Auxilium Convent High School, SIES, Sitaram Prakash High School, and DBS Matunga also attended the seminar, which began at 9 a.m. in the school auditorium.
The programme began with welcoming the audience by the Rector of the School Fr James Nigrel. The two Expert speakers of the day were, Ms Shailaja Mulay and Dr Harish Shetty.
Ms Shailaja Mulay, who had been an examiner, moderator, chief moderator, and question paper setter for SSC board, spoke on the method of preparation and smart study for the exam and Dr Harish Shetty a psychiatrist working towards bringing awareness on mental health and suicide prevention, guiding teachers with aspects of care and mental wellness, training young minds in leadership guided the students.
The experienced speakers enlightened and addressed the vibrant minds of Class X about the methods and phases of making a career choice. They discussed all the career options available under different streams for the students. The varied career options based on interest and skill of students, the importance of career guidance in school and the customized career plan in career counselling were highlighted. They also discussed every subject individually and gave various tips to the parents, for creating a conducive and favourable atmosphere at home for studying. Proper usage of weekends, proper sleep schedule and efficient study techniques which emphasized on the importance of reading textbooks of every subject multiple times was all explained during the session.
Principal, Fr Solomon Rapol concluded the seminar by proposing the vote of thanks. Both the speakers guided the students and parents and prepared them for the journey ahead. The session was fruitful with the active participation of parents, students, teachers and the management.
