BIS #7248 DB ACE ORIENTATION - A Vision for Empowerment
By Ms Natasha Nair for BIS Mumbai
On August 8, 2024, the Salesians of Don Bosco marked a significant milestone with the orientation session for the Don Bosco-Advanced Computer Education (DB-ACE) Programme at The Stellar DB Academy. This initiative underscores the Salesians' enduring commitment to empowering youth by addressing the digital divide and ensuring equal access to opportunities.
The DB-ACE Programme is designed for young adults aged 18-25 from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, offering advanced, certified training in computer skills. Recognizing that these individuals often face barriers to opportunities available to their more privileged peers, the Salesians have crafted the course to be both accessible and affordable. By implementing various financial support mechanisms, including scholarships and subsidies, DB-ACE makes high-quality computer education attainable for those who need it most.
The orientation at The Stellar DB Academy set an inspiring tone for the course. Fr Barnabe D’souza delivered a warm welcome address, highlighting the vision behind DB-ACE and emphasized the importance of giving back to the community, encouraging participants to "give what you get to others." This message of reciprocity and community support resonated deeply with the attendees.
Mr George Matthew – Coordinator at DBA Social Services outlined the course structure, explaining its five phases that build progressively from basic to advanced levels. This approach ensures a comprehensive learning experience for participants at various skill levels, from beginners to those with some prior knowledge. He also emphasized the courses commitment to equality and inclusivity, reassuring participants that everyone would have the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of their background or circumstances.
The session also had personal experiences shared about the impact of the course. Sana Parween, one of the participants, shared her feedback. Sana, who has a skin condition, expressed her aspiration to create her own path and succeed independently. She conveyed her optimism that DB-ACE would open up new job opportunities and help her overcome the challenges she faces. Sana's story highlights the transformative potential of the course and the positive difference targeted educational support can make in individuals' lives.
Following the orientation, participants were invited to register for DB-ACE. The registration process was designed to be straightforward and supportive, ensuring that all interested individuals could easily enroll and begin their journey toward advanced computer education.
DB-ACE represents more than just an educational initiative; it embodies a commitment to providing opportunities for those seeking to improve their circumstances. The orientation session at The Stellar DB Academy underscored the importance of access and inclusion in education. As participants embark on their journey, they do so with the support and encouragement of the Salesian community and the knowledge that they are part of a meaningful effort.
Through DB-ACE, the Salesians of Don Bosco are demonstrating that with the right resources and support, every young person has the potential to succeed. The future is bright for the programme’s participants, and The Stellar DB Academy is proud to contribute to their journey toward a better tomorrow.
