BIS #7102 Beauticians Graduate at Don Bosco Academy Nerul

On 6 November 2023, Don Bosco Academy, Nerul, hosted a Diwali celebration dedicated to the participants of the Skilling Courses. This event also marked the Graduation Day for the Beautician Courses. The event was attended by approximately 140 children from the oratory, 160 ladies from the community, 40 students of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), youth, volunteers, senior citizens, benefactors, and staff.
The Beautician’s Course is offered both at the Don Bosco premises and in community centres serving various migrant communities. The comprehensive courses cover theoretical, practical, journal-keeping, and personality development components, culminating in the awarding of certificates and accolades to acknowledge the participants' accomplishments.
Distinguished guests at the event included Ms Swati Bharal Mawandia - Executive Director of Rainbow Life Sciences, Mr Amal Mascarenhas - Vice presidentSanket Communications, Mr Jeet Lamba - a CSR Executive at Sterlite Technologies, and Ms Wenonah Castellino. The proceedings commenced with the cutting of the cake by the chief guests, followed by diverse performances by the women who participated in the courses.
Several participants shared their personal experiences at Don Bosco, Nerul, during the event. Alka Dubey, a student from Seawoods, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am thankful for the encouragement and guidance I received here. It enabled me to establish my own beauty parlour and achieve financial independence.” Another student, Rashida Patel from Vashi Naka, recounted her struggles to pursue education, having overcome barriers to complete her Class 12 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). From teaching mehandi to completing her Beauticians course, Rashida is now actively contributing to her community by assisting other women. Similar tales of perseverance and triumph were shared by many others, reflecting an unwavering spirit to overcome challenges.
Reflecting its commitment to uplift the underprivileged women in the vicinity, Don Bosco Academy, Nerul, remains dedicated to providing skill development opportunities. The Academy offers courses in tailoring, beauty, and computer skills, complemented by adult literacy programs, financial literacy initiatives, and awareness programs covering medical and social issues. This holistic approach underscores the Academy’s mission to empower and enhance the lives of women in the community, fostering both personal growth and social well-being.
The attendees gathered for a shared dinner and received Diwali gifts, symbolising the spirit of joy and community that defines the festive season.
