Keeping in mind the impressive invitation from God - “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12) - the boarding boys of Don Bosco Bhavan, Alirajpur, in Madhya Pradesh, and the youth of the parish came together to celebrate Parents’ Day on July 27, 2025 on the occasion of the blessed feast of St. Joaquim and St. Ann. This day was specially set aside for all the parents of the parish and the parents of boarding boys, who blessed this program with their presence.
The day began with Holy Mass in the school hall, followed by a short program organized by the boarding boys to felicitate all the parents. The youth helped the parents spiritually through animated prayers during mass and felicitating the parents with small gifts as tokens of appreciation. During his sermon Fr Cyril D’Souza highlighted the role of the parents and asked everyone to honor their father and mother not only occasionally but in each and every moment of their life. He set before them the example of the parents of the Virgin Mary.
After Mass, the boarding boys honored their parents with their sweet performances through a humorous skit, dances, and songs. Master Kalpesh Katijha, the senior boarder, voiced out words of appreciation towards the parents for the wonderful life they share, for their constant support, and for the values they bestow on their children. The parents thanked the children and all the priests for their presence among the children.
After the program the parishioners proceeded for the lunch prepared for them. The boarding boys’ parents attended a meeting regarding rules followed in the boarding, all the activities carried out, and other happenings of the boarding. Fr D’Souza addressed the parents about the importance of the participation of boys in different activities and the progress they should show in their studies. Fr D’Souza also met the parents individually along with their children. The visit concluded with the personal time the parents got to spend with their children.
