The MumbaiSalesians' managed Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra [BGVK] Ahmednagar, initiated the CheckDam construction work in one of its project villages of Pimpalgaon Ujjaini on 08 June 2020. This initiative is part of the larger Project Climate Change Adaptation launched on 02 March 2020, to be implemented in the 05 DBDS [Don Bosco Development Society] Mumbai Project Districts of Central Maharashtra: Ahmednagar, Beed, Aurangabad, Jalna and Parbhani.

At the launch of the Project Climate Adaption on 02 March, Father Rolvin D’Mello Executive Director DBDS Mumbai had said, “This is the pressing need of the hour. I place on record my sincere thanks to Don Bosco Mondo [Bonn, Germany] for the financial support for this project. Father George D’Abreo [Director–BGVK Ahmednagar] will be coordinating the implementation of this project across all the 05 project districts.” On the same occasion, 03 months ago, a 02 day staff capacity building workshop on Water Budgeting, Water Management and Soil Health, had also been organised for the Social Field Staff of BGVK Ahmednagar and BGVK Aurangabad.

BGVK Ahmednagar, post-COVID-19 Relief Outreach activities over the past 03 months, is able now to initiate the actual CheckDam construction, beginning work at Pimpalgaon Ujjaini. Father D’Abreo Director BGVK Ahmednagar says, “This initiative will certainly help the farmers to mitigate water crisis for irrigation purposes. It will also help to increase the water percolation and water table. BGVK has also been working on Water Budgeting and Water Management in all its project villages. Our heartfelt thanks to Don Bosco Mondo (Bonn, Germany) for the financial support. The construction of CheckDams in the 05 Districts of Central Maharashtra, is expected to help bring about sustainable development, in the frequently prone to drought-famine region.

Expressing sentiments of praise and encouragement, Judy Martin exclaimed, “Wonderful!” while Sunita Rodrigues commented, “Good keep it up.” Babasaheb Kharat praised the Project work saying, “Congratulations Father and Thank You.” Shaileshbhai Rathwa wanted to know the Project details requesting, “Please send me details of project. I am a psychology student in MS University Vadodar-Gujarat.”

BGVK also inaugurated an outlet of the Bhairavnath Famer Produce Company – Adarsh Krushi Udyog at Pimpalgaon Landga village in Ahmednagar. This ‘outlet’ is expected to cater to the needs of the farmers, specifically in the sale and purchase of agricultural produce. The ‘outlet’ will provide good quality seeds, pesticides and the fertilizers to farmers in its vicinity. It will also buy back the agricultural produce collectively. Later, in the near future, the Bhairavnath Farmer Produce Company also intends to operate its own nursery to provide good quality vegetable saplings to the farmers. The Bhairavnath Farmer Produce Company is promoted, motivated and mentored by the BGVK Ahmednagar. More such Farmer Produce Companies with their own ‘outlets’ are envisaged. Addressing the Company Board and other stakeholders, Father D’Abreo said, “strategic planning, marketing, teamwork and having big dreams will take you to greater heights.”
