BIS #7392 Let your Light Shine: BAL MELA Celebrations

by Eustace Fernandes for BIS Mumbai

On 9th November 2024 Bosco Boys Home, organized the Bal Mela for the underprivileged boys and girls from the neighbouring communities. Mela united 250 children from the nearby communities.

The purpose of conducting the Mela was to explore migrant work in the nearby communities, to provide services related to children, and to build networks with children from neighbouring communities.

The Mela began with a registration process, after which all participants were served a refreshing cool sherbet. This was followed by a variety of creative game stalls, which were meticulously planned by the students of the CCI and Hotel Management programs. These stalls were the main attraction of the Mela.

The children displayed their talents in various cultural programs, which featured an engaging mix of dance, singing, mimicry, and other artistic expressions. They participated in competitions like Rangoli making, Diya decorating, and tattoo art. The festive atmosphere was further enriched by a magic show, where the magician performed various tricks that delighted the young audience.

At the end of the program, Fr Roshan Gonsalves, the Rector encouraged the students to be like light, shining wherever they go with their talents and making their parents proud. He emphasized that they could achieve many wonderful things in life, but to do so, they would need to study hard and work diligently. He also expressed his gratitude to all the community representatives for bringing their children to BBH and contributing to the event's success.

In his concluding speech, he congratulated the students for winning various prizes. One of the participants, Master Anush Solanki, aged 9, shared his experience, saying, "There are so many game stalls here, and it makes me feel excited to play at these stalls. I am lucky to have this opportunity."

Meanwhile, Sujata Wagela, aged 11, expressed her excitement about winning two gifts, including educational materials that she desperately needed for school. She stated, "I am grateful to BBH for providing this platform to attend this event."

The Bala Mela was a celebration that united people of all backgrounds under one roof. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with laughter, music, and dancing. It was truly an experience that those fortunate enough to participate will cherish for years to come.
