by Cl. Ambrose Monterio for BIS Mumbai

A heart-warming Parents’ Day celebration unfolded on July 28, 2024, at St. Dominic Savio Boys’ Home in Andheri, Mumbai. The event, held from 10 AM to 4 PM, was a joyous occasion that brought together the proud parents and guardians of the institute’s boarders on account of the Feast of Sts. Saints Anne and Joachim. This day also marked the Visiting Sunday for the month of July, a day when the parents get an opportunity to meet their child and Salesian confreres of the community.

The day commenced with a warm welcome to the parents as they arrived at the Institute. A spiritual atmosphere was created as the community gathered for a Holy Eucharist, seeking divine blessings for the special occasion. The subsequent Parents’ Day program showcased the remarkable talents of the boarders, leaving the audience captivated. Energetic dance performances, melodious songs, and a high-spirited rock band performance filled the air with enthusiasm and applause. A particularly touching moment was the presentation of handmade cards by the boarders to their parents, a tangible expression of love, gratitude, and creativity.

To further strengthen the bond between parents and children, a delightful lunch was served, offering a shared mealtime experience. The afternoon was dedicated to fostering quality time between families, allowing for heartfelt conversations, laughter, and cherished memories. The boarders were given the opportunity to spend some quality time with their family members. The boys were observed to have spent their time talking to their elders and catching up with their age-like siblings and cousins. This time offered a space for shared experiences and genuine connections to flourish. As the day drew to a close at 4 PM, a sense of contentment and fulfilment permeated the atmosphere, with everyone leaving the event with hearts full of joy and gratitude.

Everyone felt blessed and grateful for the time of togetherness they spent as a family.

The Parents’ Day celebration at St. Dominic Savio Boys’ Home was more than just an event; it was a testament to the home’s commitment to nurturing the holistic development of its boarders. By providing a platform for parents and children to connect, the home fostered a supportive and loving environment, enriching the lives of all involved.
