BIS #7360 Skills Project at Vadodara by DBDS

by Mahesh Kumar for BIS Mumbai

Fr George Miranda and his team from Don Bosco Development Society successfully reached 85 children and youth through targeted interventions designed to enhance their creativity, vocational skills, and economic opportunities in the slums of Vadodara City. This intervention took place through the Skills Project supported by Mix for Kids, Germany. The following activities were organized in September 2024:

Glass Painting Training: This training introduced participants to the art of glass painting, allowing them to explore their artistic potential while also learning how to transform a hobby into a potential source of income.

Tailoring Training: Youth were trained in both basic and advanced tailoring skills. The training covered cutting, stitching, and sewing techniques, enabling participants to design and create garments. This skill not only enhances their creative abilities but also provides a viable pathway toward entrepreneurship or employment in the garment industry.

Beauty Care Training: This intervention offered training in basic beauty care techniques, such as hair care, skin care, and makeup application. Participants learned practical skills that can open opportunities for employment in beauty salons or allow them to start their own small beauty care services within their communities.

Best Out of Waste Training: The project emphasized sustainability by teaching participants how to create useful and decorative items from waste materials. Participants produced creative items giving new life to discarded materials.

The Skills Project continues to empower youth by providing them with essential vocational skills, fostering creativity, and promoting economic independence. These interventions are helping to pave the way for brighter futures, where participants can use their newfound talents to support themselves and their families.
