Don Bosco High School, Lonavla, hosted an enriching Scout Week from 20 to 24 February 2024. This event meticulously organised by the Scout Masters along with Cl. Rohan D’Souza and Cl. Alfred Menezes, aimed to instil the values of scouting while fostering practical skills and teamwork among the participants.
On 20 February, a short scout camp was conducted for the students of Grades 5 to 7. The curriculum covered essential scouting elements, from its rich history to mastering knots and other practical skills. The day was concluded with tests to assess the boys' understanding of the lessons imparted, ensuring active engagement and comprehension.
22 February marked a significant occasion as scouts came together to commemorate the birth anniversary of Lord Baden Powell through an all-faith prayer service in the spirit of unity. New members were formally invested in the scouting movement, symbolising their commitment to its principles. The boys from Grades 5 to 9 engaged in thrilling adventure games, fostering teamwork and resilience. Notably, 8 and 9 graders undertook the challenge of constructing pioneering projects under the guidance of the organisers, showcasing their practical abilities and creativity.
The culmination of the Scout Week saw the students embarking on a camping experience at Nature's Hunt Campsite in Khopoli on 23 and 24 February. Here, amidst the serenity of nature, they immersed themselves in a blend of theoretical sessions and hands-on activities, aimed at reinforcing the core lessons of the scout movement. The Scout Masters emphasised holistic development, ensuring that each scout received comprehensive education and guidance.
Elijah Lobo, a ninth-grade scout, shared, "The games, activities, sessions, and adventure games were exciting, and I learned a lot from all these experiences.” Jerry Fernandes, also a ninth-grade scout, stated, "I had the opportunity to interact with the day scholars and found the trekking very enjoyable.
Overall, the Scout Week carried on the spirit of nurturing young minds and instilling the values of leadership, teamwork, and Scouting.
