By Mrs Ashoo Varma and Mr Nitin Pawar for BISMumbai

On 11 July 2022, United Way, an NGO from Mumbai, in collaboration with Total Energies Marketing India Pvt. Ltd., conducted a seminar on ‘Road Safety of Pedestrians’ for the students from Classes 8 to 10 at Don Bosco, Nashik. The aim of this seminar was to spread awareness about the number of collisions on Indian roads, and to ensure that quality training is provided to the students.

Mr Sagar Wagh, the resource person explained to the students that the injuries and fatalities of pedestrians are highest in road accidents. He illustrated the need to obey traffic rules and regulations, and to follow the traffic signs and symbols while walking on the road. The students were also shown graphics through a PowerPoint presentation to elucidate the idea of pedestrians’ safety.

Later, a poster making competition was held for around 100 students selected from those classes on the same topic. The students were grouped into five for making the posters. Mrs Laxmi Upadhyay, the teacher in charge of the event, and Mr Sachin Jadhav, the Drawing teacher, were the judges of the Poster Competition.

Certificates of participation and reflective bands were given to all the students. Fr Cedrick Sankul, the Principal of the School and Junior College, appreciated the mission of United Way of enlightening the students about road safety and for engaging them in a thought-provoking poster making competition. Mrs Upadhyay expressed words of gratitude to United Way on behalf of the school.
