Energy, passion, and action set the tone for St. Joseph’s High School, Wadala's Sports Day on October 25, 2024. The event took place on the school turf, which buzzed with excitement as Josephites showcased their talents in a series of thrilling events.
Dr Saipun Shaikh IFS, an alumnus of KKV, Dapoli, served as the Chief Guest. He holds a PhD in Forestry from IGKV Raipur. With 18 years of experience as a Divisional Forest Officer, Dr. Shaikh has made significant contributions to forest protection and tribal welfare. Currently serving as DCF in Jawhar division and as Working Plan Officer in Navi Mumbai, he resonated with the audience, especially with the eco-conscious Josephites. This year's Sports Day theme focused on Climate Change.
The event also welcomed Guests of Honour Master Ashraf Makandar and Master Mayank Chauhan, both distinguished alumni excelling in sports and now dedicated to coaching. They were joined by Rector Fr James Nigrel, Assistant Parish Priest Fr Arul Nicholas, Secondary Supervisor Teacher Nagaprabha, and Headteacher Matilda Fernandes, all of whom were honored with floral tributes.
The opening ceremony featured a Guard of Honour escorting the guests to the dais. Principal Fr Solomon Rapol extended a warm welcome, introducing the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour to the enthusiastic crowd.
Four exemplary torchbearers—Atharva Sawant (chess & athletics), Shaurya Bhange (Malkhamb), Daivya Ambekar (handball), and Ismail Shiekh (football)—lit the ceremonial torch, marking the official start of the Sports Day. The Chief Guest hoisted the school flag, followed by the Sportsman’s Oath and Prayer. The event kicked off with spirited March Past squads saluting the dignitaries.
The Primary Section’s aerobics troupe dazzled the audience with a vibrant performance, while students from Stds. VII and VIII wowed everyone with a pyramid display. The Secondary classes showcased their unity in a coordinated Drill Display. The Mallkhamb performers—Rudra Salunkhe, Shaurya Bhange, and Krishang Boriwale—left the audience in awe with their flexibility and balance.
A group of eco-conscious "Green Champs" delivered a powerful message through song and dance, advocating for an eco-friendly Diwali celebration. Dr Shaikh addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of sportsmanship in overcoming life’s challenges.
As the day progressed, various events unfolded on the track, including Relay Races, Tug of War, and Midgets Relay. The much-anticipated staff event brought a fun-filled energy to the occasion.
The Sports Day concluded with a closing ceremony featuring the March Past, prize distribution, flag lowering, and extinguishing of the torch. The yellow house emerged victorious, amassing the highest points. Abdullah Tausif claimed the title for the midgets, while Ismail Shaikh secured the Subjunior position. The blue house won the Best March Past award.
Fr Solomon Rapol expressed gratitude to the management, staff, PTA members, and students, particularly the sports instructors, for their contributions to the day’s success.
Athang Tawade shared his excitement, stating, “I enjoyed the sports day today because I could see all my fellow schoolmates participating with zeal and zest, showcasing their talents.
