Honouring Heritage, Celebrating Progress
Maharashtra Day was celebrated at Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Nashik with great pride and enthusiasm on 1st May 2025. The occasion not only marked the formation of the state in 1960 but also served as a reminder of Maharashtra’s rich cultural legacy and its dynamic role in shaping the nation’s progress.
The event commenced with a warm welcome extended to students, parents, and staff. Principal Fr. Rixson unfurled the tricolour, which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem and a devotional hymn that paid tribute to the nation. The solemn yet uplifting atmosphere set the tone for the celebrations that followed.
A student of Standard IX delivered an eloquent speech, shedding light on the state’s historical milestones, cultural diversity, and remarkable contributions across various fields including industry, literature, and social reform. The speech highlighted iconic figures such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Savitribai Phule, whose legacies continue to inspire generations.
This was followed by a lively musical performance by students of Standards IX and X. The song, rooted in Marathi folk tradition, celebrated the spirit of unity and pride that binds the people of Maharashtra. The vibrant presentation was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
In his address, Principal Fr. Rixson extended heartfelt greetings to everyone on the occasion of Maharashtra Day. He spoke about the state’s enduring cultural wealth and its substantial contribution to India’s GDP. Acknowledging Labour Day, which also falls on 1st May, he took a moment to thank the school’s support staff—including cleaners and maintenance workers—for their dedication and service. Special mention was made of the carpenters, painters, and contractors currently working on the school’s renovation, appreciating their efforts in creating a safe and vibrant learning environment.
After the cultural programme, teachers distributed report cards to students in the presence of their parents. This smooth and organized process allowed for meaningful interaction between educators and families.
The celebration concluded on a joyful note, with parents and students expressing gratitude and exchanging warm wishes for a restful and enjoyable summer vacation. The event was a perfect blend of cultural reflection, community appreciation, and academic closure.
