By Mr Nitin Pawar for BISMumbai
Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Nashik, witnessed a two-day General Health Check-up Camp on 18 and 19 July 2023, organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) of the Central Government in collaboration with doctors, interns, and second-year students from Motiwala National Homoeopathic College. This initiative aimed to promote and ensure the well-being of the students and staff, both teaching and non-teaching, by providing free health services and consultations.
Under the proficient supervision of Dr Swanand Shukla, a Consulting Homoeopath and Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, the event saw a good turnout of students and teachers. Dr Shukla, who also serves as the Programme Officer of the NSS, played a pivotal role in coordinating the camp, ensuring its smooth execution. He kept the students engaged during the two-day camp, through several health-related awareness sessions, covering topics such as personal hygiene, nutrition, and preventive measures to stay healthy. The informative sessions were interactive and aimed to empower the students with the knowledge to take better care of their well-being.
The health camp commenced at 9:00 a.m. on both days, and the venue was abuzz with activities as the medical team and volunteers set up several desks to cater to different health needs. The camp featured a wide range of health check-up facilities, including throat, eyes, ears, blood pressure monitoring, pulse rate monitoring and also checked the height, weight, and Body-Mass-Index of the students.
Speaking about the event, Dr Swanand Shukla expressed his delight at the overwhelming response from the school community and the dedication of the medical professionals and volunteers involved. He emphasised the importance of such camps in raising health awareness and extending medical support to those who may have limited access to healthcare services.
The success of the General Health Check-up Camp at Don Bosco High School and Junior College underscored the significance of collaborative efforts between educational institutions and government initiatives in promoting community health. The event concluded with a sense of achievement and a promise to continue such endeavours to build a healthier and happier society.
As the camp concluded, the Principal, Fr Cedric Sankul, thanked all the doctors, interns, and supporting staff for their dedication, ensuring that this endeavour would leave a lasting impact on the lives of those who benefited from it. The NSS and Motiwala National Homoeopathic College are already considering plans for future health camps to extend their reach and support to Don Bosco High School and Junior College, Nashik.
