BIS #6966 Introduction to Robotics and Chess at DB Academy Nerul
By Cl. Joseph Thomas for BISMumbai
Don Bosco Academy, Nerul, witnessed two remarkable events that left students inspired and eager to explore new horizons. On 1 July 2023, the Academy, in association with MAF Technologies, organised the captivating “ROBOQUEST,” introducing young minds to the world of robotics. The following day, 2 July 2023, the Academy in collaboration with the Indian Chess School conducted a chess lecture and simul, sharpening students’ chess skills and strategic thinking.
The ROBOQUEST event proved to be a resounding success. Students were immersed in a world of creativity and technology as they engaged in workshops, interactive sessions, and fascinating demonstrations. Hands-on exercises enabled students to construct and programme robots, honing their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. As the students worked collaboratively to overcome challenges, the event not only enhanced their technical insight but also instilled teamwork and collaboration.
Feedback from the students was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their enthusiasm and eagerness to delve deeper into the fascinating world of robotics. MAF Technologies deserves commendation for their invaluable contribution, showcasing their expertise and fostering a passion for robotics among the students. The event provided valuable insights and knowledge that fueled their curiosity.
The Chess Lecture and Simul conducted by the Academy in association with the Indian Chess School on a subsequent day were highly anticipated by the students—the lecture by FIDE. Mr Praful Zaveri, the founder of Indian Chess School, focused on various strategic aspects of the game, providing insights into opening moves, middle game tactics, and endgame techniques.
The event's highlight was the simultaneous chess exhibition, where students had the unique opportunity to challenge the expert simultaneously. This exhilarating experience tested their skills and allowed them to apply the strategies they had learned during the lecture and the summer training. Apart from promoting friendly competition, the simul also instilled a sense of sportsmanship and fair play among the participants.
These events not only provided valuable educational experiences but also ignited a strong interest in robotics and chess among the students. A parent enthusiastically said, “Don Bosco aims to inspire students to pursue their passions and develop valuable skills that will benefit them academically and personally. They truly deserve recognition for their exceptional educational services.
