On August 1, 2025, St Joseph’s High School, Wadala, hosted a Guidance Seminar for the students of Std X, aimed at helping them navigate the crucial academic year ahead. The students were accompanied by their parents, and the event also welcomed selected students and teachers from five neighbouring schools –DPYA, NKES, SIES, Sitaram Prakash High School and Auxilium Convent High School.
The seminar commenced with the felicitation of the guest speakers, Ms Shailaja Mulay, an esteemed educationist, and Ms Shalini Gamre, a certified psychological counsellor. The speakers were introduced by the school supervisor, Mrs Nagaprabha Rao, who extended a warm welcome to all present.
The first session was conducted by Ms Mulay, who offered practical tips and strategies for effective study. She highlighted subject-specific techniques, shared suggestions on important topics to focus on, and reminded the students that marks obtained in Std X and XII are often considered when applying for scholarships. She strongly advised students to limit mobile phone usage, begin serious study preparations from 1st September, and maintain a healthy routine with at least six hours of sleep daily. Her session concluded with a lively question-and-answer round, where she responded to queries from both students and parents.
After a short break, the second session began with Ms Gamre, who focused on stress management through an informative PowerPoint presentation. She encouraged students to stay consistent in their efforts and introduced them to the Pomodoro Technique, a simple yet effective time management method. Addressing the parents, she urged them to spend quality time with their children, avoid excessive advising, and instead support them emotionally. Ms Gamre also encouraged students to start researching career options now, so they can make informed decisions after Std X.
The seminar concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Fr Solomon Rapol, Principal of the school, who appreciated the speakers and participants for making the event meaningful and enriching.
This seminar proved to be a guiding light for students as they step into one of the most defining years of their academic journey.
