BIS #7246 Dental Camp at DBA Nerul
By Ms Michelle Pereira for BIS Mumbai
On the rainy Saturday morning of August 10, 2024, Don Bosco Academy (DBA) Nerul hosted a free Dental Checkup Camp, demonstrating its commitment to community welfare. Held from 11 am to 2 pm, the camp saw an enthusiastic turnout of approximately 65 individuals from diverse backgrounds. The event was led by Dr Neelam Mishra, MDS, a prominent figure in Cosmetic Dentistry and the Founder & Director of Sterling Smiles Dental and Cosmetic Clinic in Seawoods, Navi Mumbai.
Dr Mishra, accompanied by her dedicated team of assistants, conducted comprehensive dental checkups for all attendees. The attendees were provided with initial dental checkup and counselled on the further course of action. Kids were given advice on oral routine and the importance of brushing teeth and maintaining oral hygiene. The camp was a significant outreach effort by Don Bosco Nerul, aiming to provide essential dental care to those who might otherwise have limited access to such services. The event catered to a broad spectrum of participants, including students, working professionals, homemakers, and children, all of whom received valuable dental insights and checkups.
The participants included students from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and those enrolled in TATA Strive, Hospitality and Business Development Executive programs. Additionally, a few Don Bosco staff members, parents and students also took advantage of this opportunity to address their dental health concerns.
This initiative by Don Bosco Nerul was not just a free dental checkup but a step towards fostering better oral health awareness within the community. The camp provided essential services and expert advice, which are often critical in maintaining good dental hygiene but might be overlooked due to financial constraints or lack of access.
Dr Mishra and her team worked tirelessly, ensuring that each participant received a thorough examination. The camp was a testament to the collaborative efforts between DBA Nerul and healthcare professionals in promoting public health. One of the participants said that being able to come to class and have a dental checkup in the same place saved her time and money. A parent said that it was a good gesture on part of the school to organise the camp for the general benefit of all.
In conclusion, the Dental Checkup Camp at DBA Nerul was a resounding success, underscoring the importance of community-based health initiatives. The event not only addressed immediate dental health needs but also served as an educational platform, enhancing awareness about oral care among the participants. Such initiatives play a crucial role in building healthier communities and bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility.
