On October 5, 2024, Don Bosco Academy in Nerul hosted a vibrant Raas Garba event, celebrating Navratri, a nine-day festival dedicated to honouring women. This festive occasion was a testament to the rich cultural heritage of India and the spirit of community, bringing together various members of the Don Bosco family.

The dedicated staff of the Development Services team, Don Bosco School, Don Bosco Academy and Past Pupils Association organized the event. Teacher Kepha Pinheiro took on the role of emcee for the evening, guiding attendees through the festivities with enthusiasm and warmth. The atmosphere was electric, filled with laughter, music, and the joyous sounds of traditional folk dance.

The Raas Garba event served as a unifying celebration, drawing in a diverse group of participants. Children from the oratory, ladies from the skilling team specializing in beauty services, tailoring, and mehendi, as well as youth from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and the Refrigeration, AC, and Washing Machine (RACW) programs, all came together to partake in the festivities. Additionally, students and staff from SCOPE, past pupils from the school, and community volunteers added to the diverse range of attendees, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the event.

DJ Reon provided an energetic soundtrack for the evening, playing foot-tapping Garba numbers that encouraged everyone to join in the traditional dances. Participants donned colorful attire, embodying the festive spirit of Navratri as they danced to popular Garba songs. Our dance instructor Mr Anand Sharma led his students into a lively and spontaneous dance session that the audience enjoyed watching.

Prizes were awarded for various categories, including the best costume and best dancer, fostering a sense of friendly competition and celebration among participants. A popular selfie corner became a highlight of the evening, allowing attendees to capture memories of this joyous occasion with friends and family.

As the evening drew to a close, participants enjoyed delicious snacks sponsored by generous well-wishers, providing a perfect ending to a night filled with joy and camaraderie. Nearly 400 people attended the celebration, reflecting the strong sense of community and togetherness that defines the Don Bosco Academy family.

The joint efforts of the Don Bosco school and academy ensured that the Raas Garba evening was a celebration of culture and a memorable gathering that strengthened bonds within the community.
