by Father Leon Cruz Ratinam for BISMumbai
On World Environment Day - 05 June 2021, the MumbaiSalesians' Salesian Youth Movement (SYM) based at Don Bosco Youth Services (DBYS) Matunga-Mumbai, launched the 'Young Green Researchers' (YGR) Programme.
The purpose of the SYM-YGR programme is to cultivate in young people, of all arras of study, an interest in the environment and to involve them in minor research projects. This is to enable them to comprehend environmental issues and attempt to seek solutions.
The SYM-YGR programme was inaugurated online by Dr. Anandi Subramanian-former Principal Advisor to Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. Dr. Subramanian spoke of the need for programmes like YGR at the grassroot level, sharing her personal experiences.
MumbaiSalesians' Provincial - Father Savio Silveira gave few practical suggestions on how the registered YGR could further proceed to come up with simple cool solutions.
The working of the SYM-YGR :
1. Youth register online at www.dbysmumbai.in/ygr
2. Once selected, as Intern Young Green Researchers, they undertake a research study on any environmental issue or topic and complete the same within 02 months. The last date of submission of project reports is 05 August 2021.
3. All research reports will be further reviewed by an expert-panel; the good reports published in the SYM Newsletter. The selected candidates will then be absorbed as Young Green Researchers in the Salesian Youth Movement.
4. The Young Green Researchers will also get an opportunity to participate and collaborate in some of the major research projects that the Salesian Youth Movement will take up.
