By Cl. Alan D’Silva for BISMumbai
On the evening of 8 October 2023, Don Bosco, Nerul, organised the Marian Nite, marking the culmination of their Marian festivities that commenced on 8 September, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Marian Nite, a traditional celebration in Don Bosco institutions, is an evening marked with fun-filled yet faith-based activities and games. This captivating event at Nerul witnessed the presence of 80 vibrant youngsters hailing from five parishes across Navi Mumbai, in addition to the youth from Don Bosco Youth Services, Matunga. The planning and execution of this event were meticulously orchestrated by Br Joseph Puthenveedu and Br Alan D'Silva, with the help of a team of dedicated lay collaborators.
The festivities commenced at 5:30 p.m., with a moment of heartfelt prayer. Following this serene start, Fr Barnabe D'Souza, the Rector, graced the gathering with his profound insights into the devotion to Mother Mary, particularly emphasising the power of the rosary. He encouraged the participants to devoutly pray the rosary, which he considers a “powerful weapon” against evil. Concluding his discourse, he formally inaugurated the event, infusing it with a sacred purpose.
Mrs Kepha Pinheiro began the celebrations by initiating an ice-breaking activity and a dance to get the participants to meet and get acquainted with each other. The programme was further enriched with a variety of captivating activities, including thought-provoking games, catchy slogans, and quizzes. These activities served as channels for deepening the participants' understanding of Mary's profound role in the life of Jesus and the Church. Ultimately, this evening provided an invaluable opportunity for the youth, representing diverse parishes, to establish new connections and enhance their knowledge of Mother Mary.
One of the lay collaborators, Mrs Jacinta Jones, shared, “Marian Nite 2023 was well organised and devotion to Mary was well incorporated in games and activities.” Preeti Topno, one of the participants, said, “This evening was special as the activities helped me to make new friends, and at the same time know more about our Blessed Mother.”
The grand culmination of this joyous affair culminated in a ceremonious prize distribution ceremony. Mrs Pinheiro extended her heartfelt gratitude to all the participants for their unwavering enthusiasm and wholehearted participation. The event left a trail of cherished memories and new friendships, blessed by the maternal care of the Blessed Virgin.
