On May 2, 2025, Don Bosco Nerul (DBN) marked a significant occasion with the inauguration of its Summer Camp and the unveiling of its brand-new cricket pitch. The camp offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities, giving students a variety of enriching experiences to choose from. Outdoor options like martial arts, archery, and the newly introduced cricket program drew considerable interest, while indoor offerings blended cultural activities with indoor sports. A strong turnout was seen, including several on-the-spot registrations.
The highlight of the day was the official opening of the cricket pitch at the DBN playground. Gracing the occasion as chief guest was renowned cricket coach Mr Dinesh Lad, who has mentored top Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, current captain of the Indian national team, and Shardul Thakur, Indian international cricketer who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Mr Lad’s presence brought inspiration and excitement to the young sports enthusiasts.
Rev. Fr Barnabe Dsouza, in his address, encouraged the students to actively participate in sports and expressed his gratitude to H B Sports, Wellness and Events, along with coaches Arman and Chetan, as well as DBN’s own coaches Rohan, Naveen, and Harshal. He emphasized the transformative power of mentorship in shaping young athletes.
Mr. Rajesh Ohri, COO of Don Bosco Academy, led the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony. The first pitch was inaugurated by student Riya, while the second was opened and blessed by Fr Dsouza, who also blessed the students and coaching staff.
Mr. Dinesh Lad then addressed the students, underscoring the importance of discipline and dedication in sports. He shared how Rohit Sharma began playing cricket at age 11 and advised students to stay away from distractions like social media. Citing an example of an Indian cricketer who only found success after stepping away from social platforms, he urged students to stay focused on their game.
Wrapping up the celebrations, Fr Dsouza ceremoniously played the first shot on the new pitch, followed by Fr Shekar, who was caught out by Coach Rory—much to everyone’s delight.
The event was a memorable start to what promises to be an exciting and engaging summer camp at Don Bosco Nerul.
