The Under-14 and Under-17 girls' football teams from Don Bosco High School and Junior College Naigaon, once again demonstrated their athletic prowess, securing the Runner-Up position in the District Sport Organisation (DSO) Inter-School Football Tournament. The matches took place on August 10, 2024, at the Old Viva College grounds in Virar.

The journey for the Under-14 girls' team began with a bye, allowing them to advance directly to the quarter-finals. In a standout performance, the team clinched a decisive 2-0 victory over Notre Dame School, showcasing their strong teamwork and skill.

Their semi-final match against Rustomjee Cambridge International School was fiercely contested, but Don Bosco High School emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win, earning a spot in the final. Despite their best efforts, the team fell to Holy Family Convent High School by a single goal in the finals. Nonetheless, their remarkable performance throughout the tournament earned them the Runner-Up position. The captain of the under-14 team, Sejal Choudhary stated, “It was a tough match but they managed to give in their best under the guidance and training of their coach Mr. Gazi.”

The Under-17 girls' campaign began on a high note with a hard-fought victory in the quarter-finals. The team carried this momentum into the semi-finals, securing a 1-0 win and advancing to the final.

The final match ended in a goalless draw, leading to a tense penalty shootout. Despite a valiant effort, Don Bosco High School was narrowly defeated by St. Xavier School in the shootout, with a score of 4-3. The team’s performance throughout the tournament was commendable, and they too finished as Runners-Up.

Led by captain Elizabeth Pujari, the team encountered a challenging first half due to the opponent's dominant presence on the field. Elizabeth remarked, “The first half tested both the skill and mental resilience of the players. Despite their relentless efforts, the team struggled to cope with the opponents’ superior strength and size. However, the coach, Mr Emmanuel, identified the need for a mental boost, urging the players to be brave and concentrate on their strengths. This encouragement was crucial in shifting the team's performance.”

Both teams exhibited exceptional skill, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the tournament. The Under-14 team and the Under-17 team each secured second place after intense and competitive matches. Their achievements have made the school proud and highlighted their commitment and talent in football.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and supporters for their dedication and hard work, contributing to an exciting and memorable tournament.
