BIS #7222 Don Bosco Nerul Past Pupils Conquer Visapur
by Cl Joseph Thomas Puthenveethil for BIS Mumbai
The Don Bosco School Nerul Past Pupils' Association organized an exhilarating trek to Visapur Fort, Malavli on 21 July 2024, which witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 20 Christian past pupils. The group was joined by Fr Shekar Devraj, Cl Joseph Thomas Puthenveethil, Cl Alan D'Silva, and Teacher Narmatha, who contributed to the overall enjoyment and success of the trek.
The trek was meticulously organized by the past pupils' representatives, Ms Yannah Bird, Mr Manan Martin, along with Cl Puthenveethil and Cl D'Silva from the community. Demonstrating their commitment and initiative, the past pupils planned and budgeted the entire trip themselves, contributing from their own pockets to make the event a success. This self-sustaining approach showcased their strong organizational skills and deep-rooted connection to their alma mater.
The day commenced early as the past pupils assembled at the school premises by 5:45 AM. There was a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation in the air. After a brief prayer led by Fr Shekar Devraj at 6:30 AM, seeking blessings for a safe journey, the group embarked on their adventure to Visapur Fort. The journey to the fort was filled with camaraderie and conversations, reflecting the strong bonds formed during their school years.
Upon arrival, the trekkers were treated to a wholesome breakfast, setting a vibrant tone for the day. The hearty meal provided the necessary energy boost for the challenging trek ahead. The trek itself was a delightful experience, with participants revealing in the scenic beauty and the refreshing waterfalls that dotted the trail. The monsoon rains added a magical touch, enhancing the overall trekking experience and making the surroundings lush and verdant.
The climb was both challenging and rewarding, testing the physical endurance of the participants. However, the picturesque views and the sense of achievement upon reaching the summit made it all worthwhile. After a successful ascent and descent, the group savored a sumptuous homemade Maharashtrian meal at the base village. This meal was a perfect way to recover from the exertion of the trek and offered a taste of local cuisine.
Following the meal, the group visited Don Bosco Lonavla, where they freshened up and enjoyed some evening snacks. The warm hospitality of the Don Bosco Lonavla community, led by Rector Fr Blany Pinto, was a highlight of the visit. Fr. Pinto addressed the past pupils, enlightening them about the aspirantate and its significant role in nurturing future Salesians. His words were inspiring and added a reflective dimension to the day’s activities.
The day concluded with the past pupils departing for home, carrying with them cherished memories of camaraderie and spiritual fulfillment. The trek not only fostered physical endurance but also reinforced the enduring bond among the past pupils and their alma mater. It was a day well spent, filled with adventure, reflection, and a deep sense of community.
