BIS #6818 Seminar for Unemployed Village Youth
By Br Royston Colaco for BISMumbai
An interactive career counselling session was organized for the unemployed youth of Dakor and its neighbouring villages. The seminar was held on 21 October 2022 at the Don Bosco Dakor campus. A total of 25 youngsters, both boys and girls, participated in the seminar. The session was conducted to make them aware about the various short term courses and the subsequent job opportunities available with it.
The seminar was organised by Don Bosco Empowerment for Emancipation of People (DEEP) Don Bosco, the social work wing of the institution. The resource persons were Mr Ajay Pathak and Mr Pravin Parmar of Rudset Institute, Nadiad. Mr Pathak, Director of Rudset institute, began the session by motivating the youth to make use of every opportunity that comes their way. He said that the young are often stuck choosing between the most paying jobs versus what they truly want to do or become in the future. The session aimed to give them a direction to walk upon to achieve their dreams.
The next session was conducted by Mr Parmar who educated the youth on the importance of having a clear aim in life. In order to achieve this aim, he spoke of the necessity of goal setting as a means to be focused on one's objectives and the need to build positive self-esteem.
The resource persons then presented to the youngsters about Rudset Institute. Rudset Institute provides technical skill training to unemployed youth free of charge. In this session they shared about the various courses run by them and success stories from among their students. They highlighted the aspect of ‘entrepreneurship’ and encouraged the youngsters to carve out their own future.
In a report published by the Indian Express in March last year, it was mentioned that 4.12 lakh youth had registered on employment exchanges in Gujarat. Kheda, the district of Dakor city, along with the neighbouring Nadiad and Anand districts accounts for 16-19 percent of unemployed youth in Gujarat. In this light, Don Bosco, Dakor, felt that career counselling is the need of the hour for the young in Dakor.
This session turned out to be an informative one for the youngsters. They were happy to interact with the resource persons and get answers to queries related to their careers.
