The feast of St John Marie Vianney, patron of parish priests, was celebrated with great enthusiasm across various parishes in the province on August 4, 2024. The day was marked by special Masses, felicitation ceremonies, and community events, all aimed at honoring the dedication and service of our priests.
At Our Lady of Dolours, Wadala West, the day began with a solemn Holy Eucharist at 8:30 AM, presided over by Fr Bonnie Borges and concelebrated by Fr Solomon Rapol and Fr Nicholas. Fr Solomon's homily drew inspiration from the Gospel, highlighting St John Vianney's virtuous life and pastoral zeal. Following the Mass, a heartwarming felicitation ceremony saw catechism children presenting handmade cards to the priests, while the parish team offered words of appreciation and gifts. The day also featured a "Monsoon Splash" event for catechism children and a special Mass animated by the cooperators.
Sacred Heart Parish, Yerwada, celebrated with a Solemn Eucharist presided over by Fr Michael Fernandes. His sermon included a touching letter about the love and appreciation for priests, emphasizing their selfless service despite challenges. The celebration continued with Br Mervin from PIME sharing thoughts on priestly dedication, followed by a felicitation of Fr Michael by the Catechism Coordinator and children. The Parish Youth organized an afternoon program themed "Grateful for Shepherding the Flock," featuring a prayer service, games, and a communal lunch.
St John the Baptist Church, Bhingar, marked the occasion with a special felicitation of their parish team. Various groups, including children, the parish council, youth group, and teachers association, honored their shepherds with flowers, choir performances, and well-wishes. The evening saw a festive meal arranged by the parish council, along with games and the distribution of rosaries to council members. Fr Vishwas, the parish priest, expressed gratitude for the council's support throughout the years.
In St Anne's Church, Ahmednagar, the celebration began with a beautiful Eucharistic service animated by Sacred Heart Convent sisters and chatechism children followed by another Eucharistic celebration animated by the Parish Council.
