Shelter Don Bosco observed National Doctor’s Day, offering heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated medical professionals who care for the youngsters of our institute.
The day began with a special prayer at the morning assembly which reflected sentiments of appreciation for doctors who, time and again, have gone beyond duty to extend care, compassion and medical attention to the youth at Shelter. In preparation for the occasion, the youngsters had crafted handmade gratitude cards, expressing in words and colour their sincere thanks to the doctors who have stood by them through illnesses and emergencies. Each card was paired with a box of sweets and a lovingly crafted keychain as small tokens of their appreciation.
Accompanied by a few staff members, groups of youngsters visited nearby clinics, dispensaries and hospitals through the course of the day. These included facilities where the boys are routinely treated for ailments ranging from minor infections to chronic conditions. The doctors seemed visibly touched by the thoughtful gestures. The doctors honoured were a diverse group—general practitioners and specialists alike, including those in dermatology, orthopedics, physiotherapy, homeopathy, ophthalmology and dentistry. Over the years, many have formed lasting bonds with the Shelter community. Some have regularly waived consultation fees; others have offered timely home visits, participated in monthly health melas, or responded without hesitation to medical emergencies.
“Our boys recognise that behind every prescription is a person who cares, who listens, and who shows up,” said Mrs. Sunita Thambe, our in-house medical attendant who also accompanied a group of youth during one of the visits.
